The Independent State of Papua New Guinea (English: Independent State of Papua New Guinea), referred to as Papua New Guinea, has 462,800 square kilometers, and its maritime exclusive economic zone covers an area of 3.1 million square kilometers.
     It is an island country in the western South Pacific, the second largest country in Oceania, a member of the Commonwealth, and is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It borders Indonesia's Irian Jaya Province to the west and Australia across the Torres Strait to the south. Belongs to the Melanesian Islands. It mainly covers about 600 large and small islands in the eastern half of New Guinea and the nearby Bismarck Islands and Bougainville. The name of the country is composed of Papua and New Guinea, and is named after the island. There are more than 600 islands in the whole territory. The main islands include New Britain, New Ireland, Manus, Bougainville and Buka. The coastline is 8,300 kilometers long.
     Papua New Guinea is one of the less developed countries in the world. The economy is mainly agriculture, accounting for 32% of Papua New Guinea's economy. The main exports are mineral and agricultural coffee, cocoa, copra, palm oil, rubber, wood and seafood. As of 2013, Papua New Guinea has a total population of 7.05 million, making it the second most populous country in Oceania, second only to Australia.
