The Republic of Indonesia (Indonesian: Republik Indonesia, English: The Republic of Indonesia), referred to as Indonesia or Indonesia, is a Southeast Asian country. Composed of about 17,508 islands, it is the world's largest archipelago country, with a territory spanning Asia and Oceania. It is also known as the "country of a thousand islands". It is also a country with many volcanoes and earthquakes. Its capital is Jakarta. It is connected with countries such as Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Malaysia.
With a population of more than 248 million (2013), Indonesia ranks fourth in the world after China, India, and the United States. Indonesia is one of the founding countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as well as the largest economy in Southeast Asia and a member of the G20.
Indonesia is one of the countries with the richest biological resources in the world. According to incomplete statistics, Indonesia has about 40,000 kinds of plants, of which medicinal plants are the most abundant. The forest area of Indonesia is 12 million square kilometers, of which 11.2 million square kilometers are permanent forest areas and 810,000 square kilometers are convertible forest areas. Indonesia's forest coverage rate is 67.8%. Indonesia is rich in various tropical and precious tree species, such as ironwood, sandalwood, ebony and sleevewood, which are well-known in the world. Indonesia has a vast sea area and a tropical climate suitable for the growth of various fishes. Indonesia's fishing resources are extremely rich, and Bagancia Biya on the east coast of Sumatra is a world-famous fishing ground.
